The West Virginia Woodturners Association provides woodturners in southeastern West Virginia and western Virginia with an opportunity to meet other turners, enhance their skills, and share their skills and interests in woodturning. Next Meeting: January 27

The January Club meeting will be held at Montwell Park on Saturday, January 27. After Show and Tell and drawings for the door prize and raffle, Bill Sproul will demonstrate spindle turning larger items such as table legs and bed posts. The Club Challenge will be to turn an identical pair of candlesticks and display them at the March 24 meeting.

November 18 Meeting Highlights

Twenty one members and one guest attended the November meeting and participated in the door prize and raffle drawings. Three members were recognized for their Show and Tell turnings. Ten members displayed their alabaster turnings for the Club Challenge and judges selected three for special recognition.

Show and Tell

Eight members submitted several of their recent turnings for Show and Tell and the judges selected these three turnings for recognition:.

Gerald Chandler received First Place recognition for this 12" highly figured cherry platter

st

Bill Sproul's 13" three-lobed mulberry platter won the Second Place recognition.

st

Third Place recognition was awarded to Jerald Carter for this lidded box which was decorated with a chatter tool.

Bill split the mulberry crotch through the pith which yielded two very attractive bowls.

st

Jerald Carter turned this deep 5" bowl from sunburst locust.

st

He also turned these pens, stoppers, and ornaments from mulberry.

Bob turned this bowl to see how mesquite turns and finishes.

Alabaster Club Chalenge

Club members created these ten alabaster turnings for the Club Challenge, an three were selected for special recognition.

300 lbs of alabaster were ordered from Colorado Alabaster Supply in Ft. Collins,CO

and Club members created these 12 turnings for the Club Challenge.

Wayne Ailiff turned received first place honors for this lidded box.

Dan Greene's 5" bowl was named the second place entry.

Third place recognition went to Jerald Carter for his small lidded box with chatter tool decorations.

Bruce Brenneman combined alabaster and wood in the design for this candlestick

Bob Nickell turned this small pot.

Jerald Carter also turned this small bowl that emphasizes the alabaster patterns.

This attractive chalice was turned by Bill Sproul.

Dan Greene finished this bowl with a walnut rim.

And on this bowl, Dan added a walnut base.
